SLC house fire displaces family of three
Firefighters responded to a house fire in Salt Lake City Wednesday morning.
No one was in the home, located at 1307 S. 300 West, when the fire started just before 9:30 a.m. A neighbor called it in to authorities.
Jasen Asay, with the Salt Lake City Fire Department, said there was smoke and flames coming from the basement when crews arrived.
A witness to the fire jumped into action before crews arrived at the home.
“[I] grabbed the garden hose, opened it up and turned on and put it down it the little window there,” said Richard Chacon, a witness. “A lot of smoke, we were going to go in the back door, but there was too much smoke.”
Six fire engines responded to the blaze and the fire was out in about 15 minutes.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of fire.
Fire crews said the family that lives at the home will not be able to stay there Wednesday evening because of the smoke damage. They are working wit the Red Cross.
